6 Peer Learning Benefits for Your Childs’ Math Success

What is Peer Learning?

Peer learning is a learning process that takes place when students learn from each other and within a small group community of peers.

What are the benefits of peer learning?

  1. When students teach a topic to someone else, they are challenged to organize the concept in their heads to describe it to peers. This may also lead them to discover knowledge gaps they didn't realize they had.

  2. Students are exposed to different types of study habits and routines via their friends and may pick up something that works for them. Seeing how peers study may trigger ideas on how to improve on their own habits.

  3. Take on an active role in their own learning as teaching a friend may increase their motivation to assist them.

  4. Students are more likely to ask questions when they’re within friends or in a small group setting because there is trust and comfort among friends.

  5. A supportive community emerges because they’re in it together. They cheer each other on. Go through ups and downs together.

  6. Leadership opportunities arise because everyone is at different levels. There are opportunities to teach and to learn in a diverse small group setting.
