Here’s a Secret: Math Opens Doors

🧐It is a mistake when parents place more value on sports and extracurricular activities.

You might be thinking, “uhm, no. Actually, I'm motivating my child by having them be in a team.”

This is not wrong. Motivating them with something they enjoy is great.

However, it’s a mistake IF:

1️⃣You want your child to have plenty of opportunities and options available to them in adulthood.

2️⃣You place MORE VALUE on those other activities RATHER than their academics.

Here’s why this is a mistake.

In elementary, all the way up to middle school, kids are building the math foundations required for high school, leading them into college.

Without these foundations your child will struggle in each and every math class they are required to take.

Soon, they will develop an idea that says, “I hate math,” or “I’m not good at math.”

When a child observes that you place less value on their academics and more on extracurricular activities, they will also do the same.

Kids learn by observation and example. You do not have to say it, your kids can figure this out by your actions.

Math is the Key to Opening Doors of Opportunity:

So, what doors does it open?

🔑Play their desired sport, but not possible if with a low GPA due to poor math grades.

🔑Non-STEM majors = yep, all other majors require you to take math.

🔑NOT limited on colleges they can apply to or programs to be part of within their college of choice.

🔑Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) majors in college = opportunity for higher income careers.

🔑Scholarships for academic/sport related, more money for books + better equipment.

🔑More career/college major opportunities + options to choose from when Math is not an obstacle.

As with everything that matters, it's a balancing act.

Be intentional about your schedule planning.

Math can open doors.

How can I help my child in math then?
