⚠️Parents: 3 Division Mistakes that Delay Learning

Have you been struggling with teaching your child how to lean division or long division? The mistakes listed below might be a reason why you’re not seeing the progress you’d like.

1. Not relating it back to subtraction and multiplication.

Division is essentially repeated subtraction as multiplication is repeated addition. In this way, students see how multiplication is the opposite of division too.

Presenting division in topics they have learned in the past will help them make the connection of how they are similar. Overall, making the topic a little less scary!

2. Not starting with strategies+visual aids.

Start (or remind) your child the different strategies available to use when solving division word problems.

Make sure they understand HOW to use each one by using real world examples, visual aids (drawings or flashcards), and manipulatives (physical objects they can manually count and
separate into groups).

3. Not learning Multiplication Facts.

Students usually go on to learn division without having enough multiplication facts in their tool belt. This will cause the student to have a disconnect and a more challenging time learning division as they are also trying to unravel the multiplication part FOR dividing. Its like trying to craw and walk at the same time, its not very efficient (or ideal).

In the first phase of our Mighty Math Minds™️ program, we focus on multiplication fact fluency. If the child has not mastered this skill it will continue to be part of the forefront focus while we work on finishing up phase 1. It is an important skill in multiplication and we are setting up our students for success.

We are now enrolling students to our math program, Mighty Math Tutoring Program™️.

This program is great for middle schoolers + more for those ABOUT to enter 6th grade (11 years old). Not only will it get them up to speed with all the material, it will also be a great intro to what is to come.

🌈Happy Learning 💪🏽🪐🎈
